How to Dress Modestly & Feminine in Winter
by Jasmine December 2020
Skirts and snow do not seem to mix. I used to think that it was easier to just wear pants in the winter to combat the cold weather. But as I shifted more towards a feminine wardrobe and with modesty, I learned that there are ways that you can still dress warm and still look cute in colder weather. I’m sharing a few tips for essentials to add to your wardrobe for the winter season if you want to dress modestly and stay cozy.
Let’s start with your outerwear. A coat will be the biggest investment of the season. When you think about it you can wear anything else underneath, but your coat is very important. A few specific styles that cater towards a feminine, modest look include outerwear with tie waist, ruffles, bows, or wrap details. My Abercrombie coat is form-fitting but still a warm puffer. My sister has a Northface coat that has a cute feminine shape. Look for coats wool or puffed in fit n flare or wrap silhouettes.
Invest in lightweight cashmere and high-quality knitwear especially if you live in a colder climate. A big thick sweater doesn’t always equal warmth. Cashmere and wool are great sweater fabrics that can be in sleek cuts making them appropriate or layering and tucking in skirts. The sustainable brand Quince has the most affordable quality options of lightweight cashmere sweaters. I love mine and will be purchasing more for the winter wardrobe.
Opt for skirts in thick warm materials like wool or knit. Also, wear fleece leggings or tights. This way you can keep your legs warm but still enjoy skirts and dresses. Another tip is to layer tall or knee-high boots under your flowy bottoms for an extra bit of warmth.
Sweater dresses are your feminine fashion friend! I love a good sweater dress for the winter season. They are not only elegant and easy to style but quite practical for cold weather. You could go for a fitted style or something oversized.
Elegant accessories like jeweled hats, in soft pastel colors, leather gloves. To finish off your feminine winter ensemble add a touch of that style in your accessories. I have a pearl-embellished beanie that adds just the right amount of chic to my winter outfits even if I am wearing a black puffer jacket. I hope these tips can help you embrace feminine fashion even in the winter months! Subscribe to my YouTube channel to see these tips in action with upcoming lookbooks and styling videos.
